What's new for '02
It appears that SUVs will continue to grow in popularity and be seen
more often on the road. However, manufacturers are producing many
smaller vehicles that are part car, part minivan, and part SUV and are
not really meant to be an off-road vehicle. They are more often
called 'crossovers' or sports wagons. There is a revival of the
Hatchback which is being called a wagon or sports 'coupe'. And
more coupes and sedans coming with more features for driving pleasure.
On the more practical side......
Saturn
has a new 'VUE' for you. A compact SUV that falls into the 'crossover'
category with fold down seats for shopping and when your not taking the
kids to school, or something like that. It has the ride of a sedan with
standard 138-hp 4-cylinder engine (or V6), continuously variable
transmission and all-wheel drive. For a flashy look, click on the
picture. You can even get screensavers and wallpaper for your
computer there, or maybe a VUE-on-a-stick.
Ford
has a hit on its hands from Europe, the Focus ZX5 which
is now available in America. Its a front-wheel drive 4-door with a
rear hatch (wagon?) with a large storage space for your gear on that
next trip to the mountains for your snowboard or bike. It comes
standard with a 130-hp 4-cylinder engine w/manual transmission and is
also available with automatic and traction control
Do you want a little Luxury?
Mercedes-Benz
has a new model, the C230 Kompressor Sports Coupe. Its affordable
luxury in a 2-door with a supercharged 192-hp 4-cylinder engine and a
rear liftgate and a rear spoiler to add to its sporty look. Go to the
website, select your model and build your own in any of 3 standard and 9
metallic colors. Some colors require a surcharge.
